BJ Shea’s Bord Game alliance Epi. 41

Things get back to normal with this episode of The Board Game Alliance as we recollect recent games played, and ruminate on our PAX West experience.

We’ve been playing some favorites lately, taking a bit of a break from trying a ton of new things, and we like it!

PAX was a smorgasbord of exciting encounters and informative interviews and we talk about how that all went down.

Then Sean gives the rundown on some Kickstarter games that we’re watching and he & Josh talk about Hellapogos.

Play nice!

We spend some time talking about games we’d like to see updated, based on the success of games like Mansions of Madness second edition, Thunderstone Quest, TI4 and the upcoming Eclipse 2nd Dawn of the Galaxy. So, we asked the Geek nationals to answer this question: “What game do you think needs a second edition?”

And, since we knew we were going to be extra busy going to conventions and getting into rules arguments, we filled up the rest of this episode playing one of Chris’ party games, Who’s most likely to? Spoiler alert: we basically spend the whole game mocking one another and shouting…

BJ Shea’s Board Game Alliance Epi. 38

The boys spend some time this week congratulating a whole lot of people at once, the winners of the Diana Jones Award for excellence in gaming.  The award went to Actual Play this year, which means that the entire game-playing, streaming, twitching, live broadcasting community won what is arguably the most sought-after award in the gaming industry!

After that, we look forward to games that we won’t be able to get at GenCon (’cause we won’t be there).  There are a lot of cool new games on the horizon and we talk about a few of the ones we’re most excited about.

Lastly, we invited Nathan Martin of Wooded Realms Game Tables into the studio to talk about his new, affordable, extra-laden game tables.

Playing games is our business, and business is good, even when we aren’t.  This week, the boys talk about some things they’ve been doing very poorly in the game world (mis-reading rules, making bad choices, generally messing things up), we talk about an interesting new game that might or might not make you feel a little weird, then go on to discuss some things that other people screwed up before focusing on some great new Kickstarter projects!
